This is the final of our three-part interview with President Tanaka. We asked him about the prospects and hope for our company and the rebar industry.

Q: Last question: What are your company’s prospects for the next five years?

Tanaka: In Japan, we would like to fulfill our responsibility as the leader in the rebar processing machine industry and solidify our position. I would like to stay close to our customers as we have in the past and raise our team strength as a rebar processing machine industry. And overseas. With Japan’s population decreasing, the decline in construction cannot be stopped. We still need new markets. I would like to grab Southeast Asia and India as a foothold for growth.

―You are saying that in order for our company to survive in the future, we need to look overseas more, is that right?

Tanaka: That’s right. It is difficult for our company, which has never competed, to go overseas where foreign manufacturers are expanding, and it involves some risk. However, we must develop our business even at the risk of taking some risks. Our goal is to have domestic sales and overseas sales split 50-50. Our first priority now is to establish a foothold for this goal. Furthermore, I would like to see Japanese rebar manufacturers expand their business overseas as well. I would like to help there as well. I hope the rebar industry as a whole will turn its attention overseas.
